Why Is MCC Discontinuing NFC Tap Integration: A Commitment to Uncompromised Luxury

At Metal-CreditCard.com, we’re dedicated to providing our customers with the most luxurious, custom metal credit cards on the market. Our products represent more than just a method of payment—they’re a status symbol, a reflection of personal taste, and a statement of exclusivity. It’s for this reason that we’ve made the difficult decision to discontinue NFC Tap integration for our metal cards. While we explored this technology extensively, we ultimately concluded that pursuing NFC Tap would fundamentally change the core qualities that make our cards unique.

Why We Decided Against NFC Tap (YouTube Video Link)

NFC Tap technology, which allows for contactless payments by tapping your card on a payment terminal, has become a standard feature in many plastic credit cards. It’s undeniably convenient. However, embedding NFC into our custom metal cards posed a series of challenges that ultimately led us to rethink its compatibility with our brand and product values.

Here are the key factors that influenced our decision:

  1. Compromising the Full-Metal Experience
One of the most recognizable features of our cards is their solid metal construction. Customers love the weight and feel of their card—the sensation of holding something substantial and enduring. Beyond the look and feel, there’s that signature “twang” sound a metal card makes when dropped on a table or handed over in a transaction. It’s a subtle but powerful signal of exclusivity. To integrate NFC Tap into metal cards, more than half of the card must be manufactured with plastic, which enables the wireless signals to work. This would drastically alter the weight, feel, and overall experience of holding one of our premium cards. The reduction in metal content would compromise the luxury experience our customers expect and diminish the distinctiveness of our product.
  2. The Sound of Prestige
Part of the appeal of a metal credit card is that unmistakable “twang” when the card touches a hard surface. It’s a sound that speaks to the strength and durability of the card—and to the prestige of the cardholder. Replacing significant portions of the metal with plastic to enable NFC would erase this signature sound that has become a part of the Metal-Creditcard.com identity.
  3. Staying True to Who We Are
At Metal-CreditCard.com, our focus is on providing luxury custom metal credit cards that make a statement. To alter our cards for NFC functionality would have required a fundamental shift in what our cards represent. Instead of being known for fully-metal cards with unbeatable durability and style, we would have become just another company offering hybrid metal-plastic cards. This would dilute the essence of what makes our product—and by extension, our brand—distinct. As our CEO Vincent Torres put it: “Our customers choose us because they want something distinct. By incorporating plastic into the design to support NFC, we would dramatically alter who we are as a company, the product we offer, and the service we provide. That’s simply not a compromise we’re willing to make.”

The Challenges of NFC Tap Integration in Metal Cards

Technically speaking, embedding NFC technology into metal cards is far more complex than it is in traditional plastic cards. The problem lies in the fact that metal is a conductive material. This conductivity interferes with the wireless signals required for NFC Tap to function.

Most solutions to this challenge involve using a large amount of plastic in the card’s body—more than half, in most cases. While this might make NFC Tap possible, it also means that the card is no longer truly a metal credit card. Instead, it becomes a hybrid, with much of the luxury, weight, and feel compromised by plastic components.

For a service like ours, which prides itself on offering high-end, fully-metal products, this wasn’t an acceptable trade-off.

A Shift in Focus: What’s Next for Metal-Creditcard.com?

While NFC Tap integration is no longer part of our product roadmap, that doesn’t mean we’re standing still. In fact, this decision frees us up to focus on the areas that truly matter to our customers—luxury, personalization, and durability.

We’re exploring new ways to enhance the experience of owning a Metal-Creditcard.com card, such as:

  • Refining our personalization options to allow for more customization, including new engraving styles and finishes.
  • Improving durability even further, ensuring that our cards maintain their form and aesthetic appeal even after extended use.
  • Innovating in other tech features that align better with our vision, providing value without sacrificing the core elements that make our cards a status symbol.

Our commitment remains the same: to deliver a product that balances elegance and practicality while upholding the standards of exclusivity and luxury our customers expect.

Why We Stand by Our Decision

In a world where technology is always evolving, it’s easy to get caught up in the rush to adopt every new feature. But at Metal-CreditCard.com, we understand that luxury means more than just keeping up with trends—it’s about making choices that honor the essence of a product.

We believe in the value of a premium, 100% metal card that stands out from the crowd. By choosing not to compromise the feel, sound, and exclusivity of our product for NFC Tap, we’re staying true to who we are as a company. And that’s a promise to our customers that we’re proud to make.
